This is a crucial question. The answer is not entirely clear. Some reports suggest it is a consortium of tech companies. Others claim it is an open-source community project. The lack of a single, identifiable owner is both a strength and a weakness.
On one hand, a community-driven project is less likely to be controlled by a single corporation. This aligns with the principles of openness. On the other hand, it can lead to slower decision-making and a lack of accountability. If something goes wrong, who do you call?
What is known is that several prominent figures in the tech world have endorsed the concept. Their backing gives gret30 credibility. But it also raises eyebrows. Skeptics worry that these endorsements are a way to steer the project in a particular direction.
