Crossways is brilliantly situated near Dorchester, which is basically the Switzerland of Dorset—neutral, polite, and full of good scones. You’re a short drive from the Jurassic Coast, but you don’t have to fight 50,000 tourists for a parking spot. You can go see the famous Chesil Beach, walk until your legs ache, and then come back to a quiet, warm van.
The site is also near a pub that does a roast dinner so good it should be illegal. I’m not naming it, because you’ll find it yourself when you follow the trail of happy, slightly tipsy campers. Seriously, the gravy is a religious experience.

The Quiet Hour (No, Really)
Most campsites have a “quiet time” that’s ignored by everyone with a portable speaker. At Crossways, people actually whisper after 10 PM. It’s like a library, but with more camping chairs and less shushing. I once heard a man apologise to his neighbour for his door creaking. That’s the level of politeness we’re talking about.
You can sit out under the stars, hear the occasional owl, and think, “Yeah, I could do this forever.” Then you remember you have a job on Monday, so you settle for a really good weekend.
