The Parrot: The Bird That Trolled Science
Alex the parrot was a famous African Grey who could count, identify colors, and ask for specific treats. He had the cognitive ability of a five-year-old, but with better vocabulary and more attitude.
When Alex got bored with experiments, he would throw his food at researchers. He also once pointed to a nut and said, “Want nut,” then corrected a human who called it a cork. The bird was grading the humans.
Parrots can also understand the concept of zero. Most humans don’t even understand why there are zero cookies left after they eat the last one.
