Nevada is another state with a high concentration of nuclear sites, including the infamous Area 51. But what's even more intriguing is that the state is also home to the Nevada Test Site, where the US has conducted over 1,000 nuclear tests since the 1950s. That's a lot of boom!
But nuclear sites aren't just about bombs and explosions – they're also about science and innovation. Take the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, for example, which is home to some of the smartest scientists in the world. They're working on top-secret projects like fusion energy and advanced nuclear reactors.
And then there's the hanford site in Washington state, which is one of the most contaminated nuclear sites in the US. But despite the risk, the site is also home to a unique ecosystem that's supported by the nuclear activity. It's a strange and fascinating place that's both beautiful and toxic.
