All over the world, shows that feature casts of characters in a world just like ours, with the only thing different being that the humans are animals who behave like humans, have always been really popular, and you need to look no further for proof than Arthur, which first started airing way back in 1996, with new episodes still in production. The latest season in the franchise, the 23rd aired in 2019, and we expect the characters to come back with new episodes in the years to come!
The show was adapted and inspired by a book series for children called Arthur Adventure, and from 2004 to 2008 the franchise got bigger with the creation of a spin-off series called Postcards from Buster, featuring Arthur’s best friend with the same name. If you were to ask us what is the most important reason why the show has been going on for so long and it is so popular, we would say it is because of the many issues it tackles.
There are not that many shows for children and teens to focus on family issues ranging from cancer, diabetes, autism, or anxiety, which are notions that kids should be thought about from a young age, and learning about these traumatic things through characters that they enjoy watching might result in a better understanding of the subject for them. Just like the name of the title song, the show aims to teach children how to believe in themselves and overcome anything!

Elwood City is the fictional town where the story takes place, where Arthur, our main character, is a student at Lakewood Elementary School, in third grade. All the characters in the show are animals who behave like humans is an aardvark, also known as an ant-eater because, in real life, this is what these animals love to eat. Of course, Arthur and his family cook and eat regular meals, just like humans do, maybe without the meat.
in his family, we’ve got his two parents who work at home, his father David, who is a chef, and his mother, Jane, who is an accountant. He has two sisters. One is Dora, known as D.W., who is in preschool, Kate, who is an infant, and the family has a pet dog called Pat. The characters he meets with and interacts with within the episodes come from all sorts of social and economical backgrounds, and the same is true for the character’s extended family.
The fictional town of Elwood is similar to a suburban area, and it is modeled primarily after the real-life city of Boston. The episodes last about half an hour, and it is comprised of two stories. Sometimes, the second half of an episode shows the story that Arthur went through but in the eyes of another character that took part in the action. The show is quite realistic, and it deals with problems that children would face in real life so that they can learn how to handle them if they ever come up.
