Kyudo arrived in China through Japanese cultural exchanges in the 1920s and 1930s. Japanese instructors traveled to major cities, teaching the sport to Chinese students who saw it as a complement to their own martial traditions. After World War II, interest continued to grow as China sought modern physical education programs that incorporated Eastern disciplines.
The formal establishment of the Chinese Kyudo Association in the 1980s provided structure and organization. This body has coordinated events across the country, including regional competitions and the flagship annual conference. Over the decades, the sport has spread to university clubs and community centers, with thousands of active practitioners today.
