Okay, so you’ve dialed 0300 222 0000. You’ve waited. You’ve hummed along to Vivaldi. Now, a human! Be prepared. Have your passport number, your application reference, and your patience ready.
They’ll ask for details like your name, date of birth, and postcode. Don’t be shy—rattle them off like you’re ordering a pizza. “Yes, I’d like one passport with extra validity, please.”
And for the love of travel, write down the name of the person you speak to. I always do this. It makes me feel like a journalist investigating my own life. Also, they can look you up if you call back.

Let’s be honest—sometimes the lines are jammed. It’s a Monday morning, everyone just realized their passport expires next week, and you’re on hold for forty minutes. What then?
