The site itself is a terraced wonderland, carved into a hillside like an ancient amphitheater for nature lovers. You park on leveled hardstanding pitches, which is a fancy way of saying you won’t wake up listing to port like a drunken pirate ship. Each pitch has electric hook-ups, so you can charge your phone to take photos of your camping triumph.
But the real unsung hero? The shower blocks. They’re heated, spotless, and have enough water pressure to peel a potato from ten feet away. One visitor said the showers were so good, they contemplated moving in permanently—but the management frowns on that.
Wildlife: the surprise party guests
Here’s where it gets weirdly magical. The River Esk runs right through the site, and it’s teeming with salmon and trout. You can sit on the bank, dangle your feet, and watch fish do backflips (not literally, but close). And if you’re lucky, you’ll spot an otter—because apparently, Otters know good real estate. One camper claimed an otter stole his sandwich, but I think that’s just a tall tale to get free chips.
And the birds! Kingfishers, dippers, and even the occasional osprey do fly-bys. Just don’t feed them, or you’ll end up with a gang of feathered thugs demanding your biscuits.
