Maybe. But only if that date has a sense of humor about weird things. If your date is the kind of person who hates campy fun, run away. Run far away.
Alternatively, go alone. Honestly, it’s more fun to be part of the collective “what is happening?” energy. Strangers will turn to you with wide eyes and you’ll just nod like, “Yep, we’re in this together.”
It’s pure escapism. No politics. No heavy drama. Just a girl, a dream nurse, and a lot of glitter. In a world that feels heavy, that’s a gift.
The bottom line
I Should Be So Lucky the musical is not good in a traditional sense. It’s not a masterpiece. It’s a master-farce. A joyful, silly, neon-colored farce.
If you love theater that takes risks, see it. If you love Kylie, definitely see it. If you just want to forget your problems for two hours, this is your show.
I walked out humming the title track. I also walked out wondering if comas are secretly the best places to fall in love. Probably not. But for a night, I bought it completely.
So go. Let the camp wash over you. Bring a friend, bring a drink, and just laugh. It’s ridiculous. It’s wonderful. And it’s way more fun than you’d expect from a story about a car crash and a ghost nurse.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go listen to “Especially for You” on repeat. You will too, after the show. Trust me.
