Dad Jim is a cop from the future. Mom Elisabeth is a doctor. Their son Josh is a moody teen. Their daughter Maddy is the smart one. Season two throws them into a hurricane of weird. Josh gets kidnapped by the Sixers. No big deal.
Then, the show introduces a secret civilization hidden in the jungle. They are more advanced than the colony. They have technology that looks like alien magic. How did they get there? Why are they hiding? The show doesn’t answer everything, but the mystery is pure fun. It makes you wish Netflix would just fund a revival.
Time Travel Gets Messy (In a Good Way)
The whole show is about people escaping a dying future. But season two asks: what if the future isn’t the only problem? There are cracks in the timeline. Characters from different time periods show up. One episode features a scientist who built a second portal.

It’s a classic sci-fi headache. You need a whiteboard to follow the paradoxes. But the show doesn’t care. It just keeps throwing crazy ideas at you. You can almost hear the writers yelling, “We only have 13 episodes. Let’s go!”
