Last May, my neighbour Dave decided to paint his fence on the May Day Bank Holiday. He ran out of paint at 11 a.m. He drove to three different DIY stores—all closed. He ended up at a petrol station, buying a tiny can of slightly blue paint that didn’t match anything. His fence now looks like a modern art installation.
Moral of the story? Dave didn’t check. But you will. You’re smarter than Dave. You’ll plan ahead, or you’ll simply accept that the paint can wait until Tuesday. And honestly, the fence can wait.
The Final Word (No Title Needed)
So, are shops closed on Bank Holiday? Yes, many are. And that’s okay. It’s a gentle reminder that the world doesn’t have to spin at full speed every single day. You’re allowed to rest too. Take a breath, put your feet up, and maybe—just maybe—enjoy the silence where the cash registers usually beep.
Next time you see a closed shop on a Bank Holiday, smile. You’ve been given a free pass to do nothing. And that, my friend, is the best kind of shopping trip you’ll never take.
