Once you see the blade’s edge, grab it with your pliers—not your fingers. The blade is razor sharp (surprise!). Pull it straight out, along the angle of the plastic slot. It should slide out like a tongue depressor from its wrapper. If it resists, wiggle it side to side while pulling. It’s not stuck; it’s just playing hard to get.
Immediately place the blade into your bowl of water or onto a piece of cardboard. Never leave a naked blade lying around. They’re like ninja stars—they look cool but will absolutely ruin your day if you step on one in the dark.

Can you do this with just your hands? Yes, but only if you’re extremely careful. Hold the razor in both hands, with the blade facing away from you. Twist the handle in opposite directions like you’re wringing out a wet washcloth. The plastic might snap at the head. This works best on cheap, flimsy razors (think hotel freebies). Warning: the blade may fly across the room and land in your coffee. Don’t drink that coffee.
I don’t recommend this method unless you enjoy playing Blade Roulette. Stick to the pliers. Your fingertips will thank you.
