Free feeding (leaving dry food out all day) is popular, but not with wet food. Wet food is a ticking clock after 30-60 minutes. Bacteria love it as much as your cat does. So schedule your wet food servings.
If you’re gone all day, a timed feeder for dry food is your best friend. Then give wet food when you’re home. It’s like a little celebration ritual. Your cat will learn to associate your arrival with good things.
The Signs You’re Overdoing It
Is your cat leaving a crime scene of half-eaten bowls? Are they gaining weight like a retiree on a cruise? You might be overdoing the wet food. Cut back by one meal and see if they stop acting like a food critic with a vendetta.
Also, check the label. Some wet foods are calorie bombs in disguise. “Gourmet” doesn’t mean “diet-friendly,” you know?
