House of the Dragon – The Obvious, But Good, Choice
Okay, don’t roll your eyes yet. Yes, it’s the prequel. But unlike that last coffee run in Season 8, House of the Dragon actually drops the hammer early. You get family drama, a civil war, and dragons that actually feel terrifying again. The time jumps can be confusing, sure, but stick with it. The show reminds you why you loved the politics of King’s Landing in the first place—without the feeling that the writers gave up halfway through.
The Last Kingdom – The Gritty, Historical Cousin
If you’re here for the mud, blood, and oaths, this one’s for you. Uhtred, son of Uhtred (yes, that’s his name, get used to it), is basically a medieval action hero with a chip on his shoulder. The show is leaner than GOT—fewer characters to track—but the battles are just as raw. You get betrayal, shifting allegiances, and a main character who is both a complete idiot and a tactical genius. It’s like the North, but with more Saxon chanting.
