Because this isn’t just about cars. It’s about your plans. Did you have a delivery scheduled? It’s probably late. Was your friend driving down from Suffolk for a BBQ? She’s now eating her sausages cold and grumpy.
Think of the A12 as the artery of Essex and East London. When it gets clogged, the whole body feels sluggish. Your post gets delayed. Your Amazon parcel takes an extra nap in a depot. Your boss gets grumpy because you’re late.
The Silver Lining (Yes, There Is One)
Here’s the warm, fuzzy part. When things go wrong on the A12, you see the best of people. I saw a photo online of a van driver handing out sandwiches to stranded families near the Hatfield Peverel roundabout. Pure legend.
Another driver started a car karaoke session with the car next to him. They were stuck for an hour, so they just wound down the windows and belted out “Don’t Stop Believin’.” It’s silly, but it’s real. It’s how we cope.
We all hate the delay, but we love the stories that come out of it. It’s a shared experience, like when the office kettle breaks. Everyone moans, but then you end up chatting to Dave from accounting about his cat.
