Maybe you’re a homebody. You’ve got your slippers on and a log fire roaring. Why should you care if the Tube runs? Because you might need a saviour.
What if you run out of brandy butter at 4 PM? What if your mum’s Christmas pudding tastes like a brick and you need an emergency mince pie run? The Tube is your hero for those small, last-minute rescues.
Or maybe you’re the host. Your friend who lives in Clapham promised to bring the prosecco. If they don’t know the Tube stops early, you’ll be stuck with dry mouth and awkward silence. Knowledge is power, folks.
Public Transport In London: Christmas
A Little Story for the Road
I once had a friend who decided to visit his girlfriend’s family in High Barnet. He planned it all, but he didn’t check the last train. Around 9:30 PM, his girlfriend’s dad said, “Time for a nightcap.”
My friend looked at his watch and froze. The last Northern line train was pulling out as he was sipping his sherry. He ended up sleeping on the floor, using a wrapped Christmas jumper as a pillow. He was warm, but his dignity was shattered.
Don’t be that person. Check the TfL Christmas service page. It’s boring to do, but it saves your Christmas from becoming a travel documentary.
