Think of a Bank Holiday as the postal service’s version of a long weekend. Everyone gets a break, from the friendly person at the counter who always asks about your weekend to the truck driver hauling parcels across the county. It’s not personal; it’s a collective exhale for the nation.
Imagine if the Post Office stayed open. You’d have to explain to your Aunt Carol why her birthday card is a week late because you missed the last collection. Instead, you now have a built-in excuse: “Sorry, Aunt Carol, it was a Bank Holiday!” Cheers to that.
The Famous Last-Minute Panic
There’s always that one person—maybe it’s you, maybe it’s your neighbor Dave—who realizes on Sunday night that they need to send something urgently on Monday morning. Dave stands at his front door, clutching a package, with a look of pure desperation.
He checks his phone. He checks the Post Office website. He lets out a sigh a mile long. Don’t be Dave. Check the Bank Holiday schedule ahead of time, or better yet, just embrace the forced pause.
Bank Holidays are the universe’s way of saying, “Slow down. That eBay auction can wait until Tuesday.” Use that time to actually write that letter by hand instead of sending a quick text. It feels old-school and special.
