Start with a light construction sketch. Draw a small oval or circle in the center of your page to represent the flower’s hub. Under it, sketch a curved shape like a shallow bowl—this suggests the cup where the petals attach.
Next, place a center guideline that runs vertically through the oval. Then lightly add a faint horizontal guideline to help you keep the petals balanced. A hibiscus is symmetrical most of the time, but petals can still tilt—use the guidelines to prevent “one side got heavier” problems.
Finally, map the five petal boundaries. Think of each petal as a curved wedge. Don’t draw the full petal detail yet. Just block in the outer edges so you know where each petal will land.
