Even though jaw mobility seems straightforward, the risks are real. The TMJ is sensitive. Pushing past comfort can irritate joint surfaces, aggravate inflammation, or strain tissues that are already unhappy.
Another limitation: online trends often blur the line between helpful mobility and painful manipulation. If a technique includes forceful opening, jerky movements, or “cracking” aimed at pain relief, you should treat that as a red flag.
Finally, jaw symptoms can overlap with other conditions: dental issues, inflammatory conditions, nerve pain, and headache disorders. If you ignore these and only rely on a “release” trend, you may miss a treatable root cause.
