Differences of a Plant and Animal Cell

Differences of a Plant and Animal Cellの概要と注目ポイントを一挙に解説しました。

Your animal cells have tiny vacuoles—think of a small file cabinet in the corner of your room. They store water and some trash, but it’s no big deal. Plant cells have a central vacuole that’s like a massive walk-in closet that takes up 90% of the room.

This vacuole is huge. It’s filled with water, and it pushes against that rigid wall to keep the plant plump. When your basil looks sad and droopy, it’s because that giant closet is empty. It’s basically the plant saying, “I’m dehydrated and my clothes are a mess.”

We get dehydrated too, but we just get cranky and need a glass of water. A plant dramatically wilts like a Victorian heroine fainting on a fainting couch.

Shape-Shifters and Box Dwellers

Animal cells are irregular and flexible. They can be round, star-shaped, or long and skinny like nerve cells. We’re shape-shifters. Plant cells are rectangular boxes stacked like bricks. They’re the predictable friend who always orders the same thing at the restaurant.

Because of that cell wall, plant cells can’t move. They’re locked in place. Your cells can crawl around, squeeze through tiny spaces, and fight infections. It’s the difference between a classical ballet dancer and a potted fern.

If your life feels like you’re stuck in a box, you might be relating to a plant cell. But you’re not. You have all the wiggle room of an animal cell—use it.
