Step off the park and you’re five minutes from Tunstall Beach. It’s a glorious sweep of sand and pebbles where you can fly a kite, build a dodgy sandcastle, or just stare at the sea feeling philosophical. The sunsets here are ridiculously pretty—the sort that make your Instagram followers jealous.
Head up the coast a bit, and you’ve got Withernsea—a proper traditional seaside town with arcades, rock shops, and a lighthouse that looks like a giant candy cane. You can even climb to the top for a view that’ll make your legs wobble, but your heart sing.
If you’re into nature, Spurn Point is a short drive away. It’s a skinny stretch of land where you can walk for miles and spot seals. Seals, mate! They’re basically water dogs with better posture. Bring binoculars and a warm coat, because the wind will try to steal your hat.
For food, don’t miss “The Ship Inn” in Tunstall itself—a proper pub serving huge portions of fish and chips. The chips are so thick they look like potatoes who gave up on life. Perfect.
The vibe: Laid-back and laugh-friendly
What I love most about Sand Le Mere is the lack of snobbery. Nobody cares if your caravan has a dented door or if you’re wearing socks with sandals. Everyone’s there to chill, eat too many chips, and watch their kids get covered in ice cream. The staff are smiley and helpful, not like those bored teenagers you get in some places.
There’s a small clubhouse with a bar that does cheap drinks and quiz nights. I once won a round of “name that tune” by guessing “Baby Shark”—the shame was real, but the free drink was worth it. Come on, that’s a holiday memory right there.

And because it’s family-run, everything feels personal. The owner sometimes walks around asking if you’re having fun. You can’t fake that sort of care—it’s genuine Yorkshire hospitality, warm and a bit blunt.
