Forget the math. Drink when you’re thirsty. It sounds too simple, but evolution didn’t give us thirst cues just for fun. If you feel like a dried-out sponge, drink. If you don’t, don’t force it.
If you want a more techy approach, grab a water bottle with time markers. Or just use the “pee check” method. Pale yellow = happy. Dark = drink. Clear = stop showing off.
And please, for the love of all things good: don’t chug a gallon of water just because some influencer said so. That person sells detox teas. They are not your doctor.
What About Coffee and Tea?
Coffee and tea do count toward your daily intake. Unless you’re drinking a pot of pure caffeine, the diuretic effect is mild. That latte is hydrating you, even if it also makes you jittery.
Soda? Less great. It has water, but the sugar and salt can dehydrate you. Stick to water, sparkling water, or those weird fruit-infused bottles if you’re fancy.
Bottom line: there is no magic number. Your body is a smart machine. Trust it, don’t fight it. And if you’re still unsure? Ask your doctor, not an article from a stranger on the internet.
Now go refill that bottle—but don’t drown yourself. Cheers.
