Maria Perez-Brown

 

 

Named one of the most powerful minorities and women in the cable industry for 2011 by Cable Fax Magazine, Maria Perez-Brown is a nationally recognized leader in cable and Hispanic media.

Perez-Brown has more than 20 years of experience creating and developing targeted content for leading television brands, including ABC, CBS, Nickelodeon, Disney and SiTV.

The Senior Vice President of Programming for NuVo TV (formerly SiTV), Perez-Brown spearheads the programming strategy for the network and works closely with marketing, ad sales, and affiliate sales in securing distribution and implementing initiatives that are consistent with the network’s brand values. Among her recent credits, Perez-Brown developed and executive produced, PastPort: A Journey Back Home, a six part docu-series that chronicles the journeys of American Latino celebrities back to their parent’s countries of origin. She also developed and executive produced Model Latina, SiTV’s hit reality modeling competition series now in its fourth season and “Latino 101,” a comedy series featuring more than 40 established comedians and celebrities exploring a variety of hot button topics for Latinos.

As President of her independent production company, Dorado Entertainment, Perez-Brown has a long list of award-winning television credits, including the development of several drama and sitcom properties for Touchstone Television, ABC, CBS, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., Teen Nick and SiTV. She was the creator and executive producer of Taina, a live-action comedy series for Nickelodeon about an imaginative 15-year-old caught between her traditional family and the contemporary world. In 2002, the Imagen Foundation and the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) named Taina “Best Children’s Series”. Perez-Brown also created and executive produced the popular pre-school series Gullah Gullah Island, which was named one of the top 10 television shows for children by TV Guide and received a Daytime Emmy Award nomination.

Perez-Brown is the author of Mama: Latina Daughters Celebrate Their Mothers and is currently an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University’s School of the Arts where she teaches “The art of the television pitch.”
